A music festival designed to make an entire town feel like the venue.

Elgin Music Festival brings free, all-ages performances to downtown Elgin, Texas. The Elgin Arts Association organized its third edition with the city on April 9–11, 2026. As Festival Director, I focused on local talent, welcoming audiences, and connecting the music to the town.

Making a town
the venue.

My role: Festival Director. The work: connecting the program, the places, and the people so a weekend of music could feel like Elgin.

01 · The challenge

Make room for a changing town.

Elgin includes longtime residents, newcomers, and musicians from different generations and traditions. The challenge was to create an event where those groups could share an experience while keeping their own voices.

In my Spring 2026 interview with Downtown 78621, I described the festival as a way for people to discover the creative community already around them. A varied lineup and a walkable downtown experience were central to that idea.

02 · The decisions

Access is part of the design.

I prioritized free admission, local representation, and a balance of regional draws. We planned indoor and outdoor performances with fewer schedule clashes so audiences could explore more of the festival.

Working with the Elgin Arts Association and city partners, I approached programming as a shared effort serving musicians, audiences, and downtown businesses.

03 · The 2026 edition

From the plan to the streets.

The third festival took place April 9–11, 2026. The photographs below document musicians and audiences sharing stages, the gazebo, patios, and dance floors around Elgin.

The longer-term aim is a festival that artists want to return to, businesses feel part of, and residents recognize as their own. That means listening between editions and giving local talent room to grow.
